NEWS CIVIC ASSOCIATION - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Annual General Meeting of Innerleithen Civic Association will be held in the Council Chambers, Leithen Road, at 7pm on Wednesday 28 April 2010. All committee members are requested to attend. Members of the public and anyone interested in the town's Christmas Lights will be made most welcome.
WELLS GROUP COFFEE MORNING The coffee morning held in the Vale Club last Saturday in aid of the St. Ronan's Wells Support Group funds raised just over £300. The Wells Group committee wishes to thank all those who kindly assisted in running the event; all those who contributed items for the cake and candy, tombola, book stall and raffle; the Vale Club for allowing us to use their premises; and members of the public for their attendance and generosity.

BEARERS’ COFFEE MORNING
GRIMETHORPE COLLIERY BAND CONCERT The world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band will play a special concert on Saturday 5 June in Innerleithen Parish Church at 7.30pm. Tickets are now available at £12 (£10 concession) and can be ordered by sending a cheque (made payable to 'St. Ronan's Tattoo Committee") to St. Ronan’s Tattoo, 21 Miller Street, Innerleithen, EH44 6QR. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope, giving your full requirements. (Downstairs seats only now available).
ST. RONAN’S STANDARD BEARER’S BALL 2010 The St. Ronan’s Standard Bearer’s Ball will be held on Saturday 10 July in the St. Ronan’s Marquee. Tickets cost £30.00 each and will be on sale on Saturday 22 May from 8.00am at Foresters, Wells Brae, Innerleithen. Full payment must be enclosed with a note of your exact requirements. Maximum of twelve tickets per party and dress is strictly formal. Cheques should be made payable to “St. Ronan’s Border Games.”

TOKENS St. Ronan's Certificate of Appreciation The committee for the St. Ronan’s Certificate of Appreciation, is accepting nominees during June 2010 for St. Ronan’s Borders Games Week 2010. All local residents who live or work within Innerleithen, are being asked to consider someone they know within the community, who should be recognised for their background efforts and service to their fellow man. Sometimes regarded as the ‘unsung heroes’ who are never mentioned, but without whose commitment and dedication, other people’s lives would be adversely affected. We want to know about these deserving people and to hear from you as to why you want to nominate someone for public recognition of their humanitarian service or self sacrifice. It could be a mum or dad who has been extremely helpful or supportive; a son or daughter who you believe has shown extraordinary commitment to helping others; and aunt or uncle; friends of the family, in fact anyone locally whom you consider to be worthy of this recognition. Future Innerleithen – residents make their choices Sir On behalf of the Future Innerleithen team I would like to thank the 500+ residents who came to the Community Event on Saturday 13th June to state their priorities for the needs of Innerleithen. There was a lot of lively discussion and considered thinking before each resident marked their 6 top priority needs. We will now analyse these results and publish a Community Action plan soon with a copy going to every house in Innerleithen, Traquair and Glen. Having gone through this democratic process we are now well placed with solid facts to establish separate projects to deliver solutions for these top priority needs. The process we used was provided by Colin Roxburgh, STAR consultancy and funded by the Big Lottery and by Scottish Borders Council. Future Innerleithen carried out this study on behalf of the Innerleithen Community Trust. We will provide on-going reports on the progress we are making with each project and there will be further public events where various design options and their locations will be displayed and again residents can vote for their preferred option. More information can be found at the Future Innerleithen web site – www.futureinnerleithen.org.uk or by contacting Brian McCrow on brian@mccrow.co.uk We were also well entertained during the day by the St Ronan’s primary singers, the Beggar Girls, the Fortissimo Choir and local guitarists TurboShandy. There were face painters, a bouncy castle and a trio of skateboarders demonstrating their skills in the car park. Many local groups had stalls in the hall and we were well fed by volunteers from the Innerleithen Tennis club. There was a Prize draw with excellent prizes from local organisations such as Caddon View B&B, Traquair House, Smail’s Printing Works, Cider House, Coop, The Whistle Stop café and Carole Collin. I would like to thank the Future Innerleithen Steering group for their dedication and hard work and the many volunteers who delivered to and collected the survey forms from every house. I’d also like to thank the many groups within Innerleithen who took time out to be interviewed by Future Innerleithen. Thank you, Innerleithen, Traquair and Glen, we will have a Bright Future. Yours Brian McCrow What do you want for a “Future Innerleithen?” Following a recent meeting attended by a number of local groups, the “Future Innerleithen” working party has been formed to establish the views of people in Innerleithen i.e. the EH44 postcode area. This group comes under the umbrella of the Innerleithen Community Trust. It is felt locally that Innerleithen has missed out on investment in recent years with most investments going elsewhere in Tweeddale, we think that it now time for Innerleithen to have money spent on it for the good of its residents, shop keepers, businesses and visitors. First of all we need to find out what you think about the local community facilities and what changes and new facilities you would like to see (if any). Lottery and other funding will be obtained to develop facilities within the town for the whole community, including organisations such as the Pipe Band, Silver Band, Operatic Society, plus the Youth, Elderly, Disabled and all Sports and for visitors, shop keepers and local businesses. In the next couple of months we will be canvassing your views, please let us know what you want and need so we can provide the most appropriate facilities for you and the rest of the community. If you think that you could help us in any way with this process, your contribution would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps you have some experience of such community appraisals, have relevant legal knowledge or are prepared to distribute questionnaires? Whatever you can offer we would like to hear from you. Community Trust There is a Committee of Trustees that manages the Trust and apply the funds of the Trust including all donations, contributions and bequests to further the objects of the Trust. Since it was set up the Trust has employed a community development worker, progressed charitable status, produced a ‘What’s On’ leaflet, granted money to St Ronans Primary School pupils to publish a town trail booklet, conducted historic town walks, produced a commissioned history of Innerleithen for use in visitor information boards and leaflets, and developed a photographic archive for the community. Current projects include providing funds and overseeing maintenance on the popular woodland walkways along Leithenside from Horsbrugh Terrace to Cuddy Brig and Pirn Hill.
