This is the Bridge Bar in the Sandbed in Hawick,
it was built by my Great Grandfather Robert Beattie and owned by him
until his death in 1936,
We are not sure of the occasion in this photo but we think royalty
was visiting Hawick at the time.
The bar part of this building is now Hawick Angling Club, my Uncle
still lives up above. Date unknown.
Here is another Hawick watering hole, The Buccleuch
Hotel in Trinity Street getting a delivery from the Co-Op bakers cart.
(1882)
This building is now the Silver Street shoe
and boot repair shop in Hawick,
it used to be Michael Grahams Cobblers, note the square face on St
Marys clock, it is round now,
and we were wondering when it was changed, the bell was renewed in
the 1860's so perhaps it was done then.
The picture was taken from the front of what is now a restaurant but
then would have been Clinty the Tailors shop. Date unknown.
Goldielands Tower on the South road out of
Hawick. Date unknown.
This is the Band Stand that stood in Hawick's
Wilton Lodge Park, not sure when it was demolished or why. Date unknown.
Hawick Corn Exchange in the 1860's, this building
served as a cinema and a nightclub in the Twentieth Century
before it was gutted by fire in 1992, I was there on the night of
the fire and captured a lot on video tape,
which was used by Border TV's Lookaround news programme at the time.
